How to Apply to Laser Print-Out Service

Smart cards can be used for the Print-Out service. This application enables the use of credits which are uploaded to the smart card to get print out from the Pc Rooms. These services can only be used by smart card, after the 1st of January 2008.

To upload credit to the smart cards follow, http://www.smartcard.metu.edu.tr/sc-web-trk-kartapara.html; for detailed information about the smart card use and other smart card application areas within the campus, http://www.smartcard.metu.edu.tr/

In order to use the Laser Print-Out Service with Smart Card, you should apply to the print-out service operator (Gülsüm Aygün, METUCC, B-Block, 1st floor, No:109) after upload credits to your smart card.

If you had to pay the money to the bank in order to use the Laser Print-Out Service, you should do the following:

  1. Pay the fee (0.1 YTL per page) corresponding to the total number of pages (minimum quota is 30 pages) you need to Ziraat Bankası METU Branch (Account No: 32459). Tell the Bank officer your user code (e.g. "e108224").
  2. The Bank will give you two copies of the bill.
  3. Apply with these bills to the print-out service operator (Gülsüm Aygün, METUCC, B-Block, 1st floor, No:109) and give one copy of this bill to her and keep the other one for yourself.
You can get your print outs at most 24 hours after you submit the bill to the operator.

How to Take Print-outs From Laser Printers

In order to get print-out from the METU-CC Pc rooms, first the printer software's "Print" option should be chosen and second the relevant printer should be marked from the printer list. If a problem occurs, the following method can be used as well;

A) If your file is processed in a Windows based program (like MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint or L-View, PhotoShop etc.), first you have to convert it to the postscript format. Do the following:
  1. From "File" menu click "Print" command.
    Choose the printer which is using a driver called "HP LaserJet 4Si/4SiMX PS" (written near "type" on the printer window) and click the "Print to File" option box.
  2. When you are prompted, give a name to your file with a ".prn" extension (eg. xx.prn) and save it to a directory.
  3. Transfer this ".prn" file to your central server systems account in Binary mode via FTP.

    (Information about connecting to your central server systems account can be reached from here by connecting to the "How can I connect to central server systems?" link.)

    (Information about the usage of FTP programs can be reached from here by connecting to the "What are the FTP programs with graphical interfaces?" link.)
